- Peace Poetry
Magic emerges
thrust upwards
from the lake’s painted surface;
Arthur’s sword
pointing the fair way to justice
alas we have grasped
the wrong weapon;
greed,
and above us all now
hangs the sword
of Damocles

EMPATHY GAP
because we can not
feel
each other’s pain
we cause
each other more
tears,
the harvest
of indifference
to each other’s humanity
tears,
of the women
in Palestine, Afghanistan
in Israel, Bosnia
in Iraq and Serbia
tears of the mothers, wives, daughters
in New York, Nova Scotia
in Spain and London
in Edmonton, Petawawa
in Japan and Russia,
in Kashmir
tears
of the women and children
in Darfur,
Bali,
Sudan,
and Colombia,
in Haiti,
Harlem
in Lebanon and Gaza
all tears
flow
to the great sea of sorrow
Arab tears
Israeli tears
Hindu, Moslem, Jewish tears
Christian, Buddhist tears
Salt of the Earth,
mourning falling water
each dropping tear
joins trillions more
in the great sea of sorrow
mad hatters march
won’t turn the tide
and like Alice, trapped
we can’t find the key

DARK TO DAWN
lost
in a crude,
black,
oil powered age
vested interests,
military dream spun
with cruelty
that rivals
the ancient Hun
petroleum power pumps flow
for traded plastic
or slices of murdered trees
religious fundamentalists
bray and bark
about this obscure point,
that irrelevant one
while all God’s enlightened children
await the light of love:
The Golden One Rule
that commands
compassion
all energy falls
everyday
from the sun
waiting for harness
in the light age to come

nucleus
engine of life
nuclear
engine of death
ramping up the stakes
on a ragged
blue green planet
how to find solace
when the search for oil
is holy grail
so much gold,
rays spilling
coursing
sun’s alchemy
on a luminous planet
in the depths
of space
blue and green
have their genesis
in gold
falling
quivering
illuminating
life creating
flower enmeshed
with painter’s blood
reflecting
infinite variety
quick silver
consciousness
ecstatic
elemental choreography
electrons
atoms
cells
